David Pain had shared many of his personal documents on Masters Track and Field.
This included: Masters Records Lists, Masters Results Lists, Masters Programs,
Masters Newsletters/Magazines/Bulletins, and so much more.
David Pain had originally envisioned a Masters Track and Field Museum in San Diego,
due to expenses we created an on-line museum instead.

July 1968 Masters Track and Field as we know it today was created by David Pain with the first Nationals in 1968 (San Diego, Calif.).
San Diego would hold other future USA Masters Track and Field National Championships: 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1989.
Sept 1970 David Pain’s USMITT newsletters began focusing on Masters Track and Field. The final issue was 1979.
Starting August 1972 David Pain and the USMITT team toured around the world. David Pain had started planning the tour in 1970. August 1975 a World Masters Championship was held. Due to these tours, the efforts of many, and one July 1968 San Diego meet, the movement we now call Masters Track and Field began.
1977, The Ashbury Park Press reports, “David Pain . . . has predicted there will be more Masters (40-plus) track athletes in the U.S. than younger athletes in less than 10 years” (Asbury Park Press, New Jersey, Apr 10, 1977).

Special thanks to David Pain and Randy Sturgeon:
USA masters founder and pioneering meet director David Pain and National Masters News Publisher Randy Sturgeon have provided immense help with this archive site. David’s contributions include his vast memorabilia (from the 1970s and 1980s) and United States Masters International Track Team newsletters , and Randy has shared many results from back copies of his monthly newspaper (1977 to 2006). Both were instrumental in creation of this site, and the committee salutes them for their assistance in helping bring together extremely valuable documents and data.
